Part 1/5

Can land be transformed, the way M-Pesa transformed payments?

Digitised. Simplified. Faster transactions.
Happier customers. A happier nation.

Let’s Learn

Best Practice

New Zealand digitised its core survey and title records between 1997 and 2002.

By 2003, it had introduced the Landonline system to enable electronic registration of survey records (e.g. maps, beacons, boundaries etc.) and title transactions.

This earned it the status of becoming the first country in the world to digitise its land records.

The cadastral part of the system (maps et al) enabled people to search title information and boundary details online – at the click of a button.

That was 20 years ago.

What if?

You could earn an extra Kshs.350,000/= per month on your second career, simply helping 3 clients to complete their land transactions?

This has become possible in New Zealand. The country is ranked the 9th Happiest Country in the world, and the only non-European nation to occupy a spot in the Top 10 Happiness Index (Source: The UN-Sponsored World Happiness Report 2021).

The law was changed

In New Zealand, the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 came into force in 2008.

This piece of legislation provided the framework for the Conveyancing Profession in New Zealand. The consumer was given a choice.

They could opt for a registered Conveyancing Practitioner or a Lawyer, when buying or selling property.

It’s interesting to see how Clients decided to stick with people who had served them well in the past e.g. their former Architect, their former Valuer and so on.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern

Did you know?

That conveyancing in New Zealand is not restricted to Lawyers?

If you are interested in helping people buy and sell land, all the way to transfer and registration in their name, all you need to be is a Registered Conveyancer.

Becoming a Conveyancing Practitioner means that you will need to earn a Diploma in Conveyancing, then apply to be a Registered Conveyancer, after which you can then apply for your Conveyancing Practising Certificate from NZSOC.

The New Zealand Society of Conveyancers (NZSCO) ensures strict compliance by Conveyancing professionals.

Can you imagine?

If Kenya applied this, imagine how much faster things could move.

In addition, a number of built environment professionals such as architects, auctioneers, surveyors, engineers and quantity surveyors would have a shot at starting another career later in life!

Is it time to open up the Conveyancing space and give professionals another way to serve their existing Clients?
